Scum Bosses

6 charged with failing to pay employees’ salaries

There is nothing more I hate than an employer who is late or refuse to pay your wages when the money is due. The 6 charged are just the tip of the iceberg. How many cases go unreported? And worse, if you count freelance work, I bet the number will go through the roof.

The thing about this selfish Govt is that they take this very lightly. If you screw the Govt of money, you will be hauled to court very fast but there is flimsy protection for the worker and the freelancer. Right now an employer is threatening to not pay my Mum for the 7 days she worked as a cook.

My solution is easy. You need to impose a LIFETIME BAN for a$$hole employers like these and do not let them conduct business in SG EVER. Set these 6 goons as an example and you will see the other employers will think twice to skip your paycheck again. Besides, in order to have a fair and positive business culture, you need to clear the scum.

And you also need to keep rules tight in the business environment, because we are talking about money here. You can see people show their true colors when it comes to money. Some people do not respect rules at all and I have experience that 1st hand in the workplace. They have this mind that is always coming up with ways to cheat and search for loopholes. Even after repeated warnings.

Only after my boss fired the trouble maker, I notice a HUGE difference. People work happier and work got done faster. So like a good employer who fires a troll employee, a good government must fire a troll employer.

Good employers leads to happy employees.
Happy employees leads to increase in birth rates.

In my opinion, while i agree that employers who refuse to pay their employees should be punished, giving a lifetime ban to not let them conduct business in Singapore is impractical, and will have major consequences, for examples, if the employer is of a small business, no matter how small, all his/her employees, paid or not, will be out of job, if, the employer is of a bigger local company, either there be major changes in the management personal and/or the employees be out of jobs again as the company will have to close. While if it was a major international corporate, such law will just force the employer to set up business else where which will cause Singapore which depends heavily on trade, and tourism to suffer. Thus what you suggest will backfire, and cause employees to suffer. I would suggest rather, the employer be fined and required to pay twice as much as he or she owed to the employee and be strictly monitored to prevent the refusal of payment again.

I was referring to errant offenders. If the Govt were to impose a lifetime ban at the blink of an eye for every mistake the employer makes, of course the outcome with be catastrophic. So give them ample warnings and fines.

I am talking about employers who refuse to budge and take this sort of thing lightly. The law should be harsh to set as a DETERRENT. Failure to pay employees are most of the time done by SMEs. I don’t see any “major international corporate” based in Sg having problems paying up. And if there are, I bet the cases will be rare.

To be soft on the SME employers will turn to Singapore to another China.. where bosses can get away with not paying workers for MONTHS… and workers threatening to commit suicide.

“if the employer is of a small business, no matter how small, all his/her employees, paid or not, will be out of job”
I prefer if the Govt weed out all the scum employers before I hit the classifieds to search for a job. I rather be jobless than work for an employer for a month and realize I am not getting paid and waste my time and effort.

Having this rule will only promote a positive work and business environment. Any talk about SMEs closing left and right is unfounded. The only thing I see the rule will do is FORCE employers with bad habits to change.

I hope this would clarify things abit.
